Entry instructions

  1. Entry is only open to Australian residents aged 15 years or over. Entrants between the ages of 15 and up to but not including 18 years must have parental/guardian approval to enter and further, the parent/guardian of the entrant must read and consent to these Terms and Conditions. Parents/guardians may be required by the Promoter to enter into a further agreement as evidence of consent to the minor entering this promotion.

  2. Employees of the Promoter and agencies associated with this promotion are ineligible to enter.

  3. Entry opens at 9:00am AEDST on 17/10/2016 and ends at 4:59pm AEDST on 11/12/2016 (“Entry Period”).

  4. To enter, eligible individual must complete the following steps during the Entry Period:

    1. create an original and creative video of themselves pitching an idea they have to help children in hardship stay in school (“Video”). The Video must be not longer than 60 seconds. Examples of ideas that individuals could submit include an app, a video, a game, a mentor, etc.; and then

    2. visit ideasgen.uniting.org, follow the prompts to the promotion entry page, input the requested details (including their full name, age, telephone number, email address, and their parent/legal guardians’ personal details if they are under the age of 18), upload a copy of their Video, and submit the fully completed entry form.

    Each entrant warrants to the Promoter that the Video and any other content submitted in their entry is an original creative work of the entrant that does not infringe the rights of any third party. All content must comply with and is subject to the provisions contained in clause 33.

  5. Once individuals have submitted a Video, they will have their Video reviewed by the Promoter (and/or a representative of the Promoter) for compliance with these Terms and Conditions. All approved Videos will then be uploaded onto ideasgen.uniting.org at the beginning of the Voting Period (defined below) for public viewing and voting. Videos that contain prohibited or inappropriate content, or are otherwise in breach of these Terms and Conditions, as determined by the Promoter, may, at the discretion of the Promoter, not be published or removed from the website at any time. In addition, any entrant that submits such content will not be eligible to win.

  6. Incomplete, indecipherable, or inaudible entries will be deemed invalid.

  7. Only one (1) entry is permitted per person.

  8. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and entrants (including an entrant’s identity, age and place of residence) and reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of these Terms and Conditions, tampered with the entry process or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise fair and proper conduct of the promotion. Errors and omissions may be accepted at the Promoter's discretion. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights. The Promoter's legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.

  9. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an entrant, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine the identity of the entrant.

Voting requirements

  1. Voting is only open to residents of Australia.

  2. Voting commences on 18/12/2016 and ends at 11:59pm AEDST on 22/01/2017 (“Voting Period”).

  3. To vote, individuals must complete the following steps during the Voting Period:

    1. visit the ideasgen.uniting.org;
    2. follow the prompts to the promotional voting gallery; and
    3. click the “vote” button corresponding to their favourite entry (i.e. Video).

  4. No prize will be awarded for the act of voting.

  5. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of votes and voters (including a voter’s identity, age and place of residence) and to disqualify any voter who submits a vote that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who tampers with the voting process. Errors and omissions will be accepted at the Promoter's discretion. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

  6. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time: (a) to invalidate any votes which it reasonably suspects have been submitted using false, incorrect, fraudulent or misleading information, including but not limited to personal details and contact information and/or votes that have been submitted through the use of multiple identities, email addresses or accounts, including but not limited to social networking accounts; and/or (b) to disqualify any entrant (or invalidate his/her entry) that the Promoter reasonably suspects has paid, bartered or offered payment or other consideration to another person in exchange for votes or has otherwise encouraged or procured any person to submit votes contrary to these Terms and Conditions.

  7. Multiple votes permitted, subject to the following: (a) each vote must be submitted separately and in accordance with voting requirements; and (b) a maximum of one (1) vote is permitted per voter per Video.

Finalist determination

  1. Subject to clause 18, the 10 valid entries with the highest number of valid votes at the end of the Voting Period will each be a finalist (“Finalist”).

  2. In the event of a tie between two (2) or more entries for the last Finalist position, all tied entrants will be considered a Finalist.

Winner determination

  1. The Promoter will judge the Finalist entries (i.e. the Video and the idea pitched in the Video) against each other based on: (a) creativity and originality of thought; (b) achievability (i.e. is the idea possible and feasible to execute); (c) effectiveness (i.e. will the idea have a real social impact and contribute to solving the issue); and (d) longevity (i.e. is the idea strong enough to live beyond this promotion). The judging will take place at the Promoter’s office on 25/01/2017 from 12:00pm AEDST. The judges may select additional reserve Finalist entries which they determine to be the next best, and record them in order of merit, in case of an invalid entry or ineligible entrant.

  2. The entrant to submit the best valid Finalist entry, as determined by the judges, will be the winner (“Winner"), and will win a trip for two (2) people to Austin, Texas, USA valued at up to AU$12,031.22 depending on point of departure. Prize includes:

    • return economy airfares from winner's nearest Australian capital city to Austin, Texas for two (2) people, departing on 13/03/2017 and returning on 19/03/2017;
    • five (5) nights twin share accommodation at The Westin Dallas Downtown in Dallas, Texas for two (2) people, with check-in on 14/03/2017 and check-out on 19/03/2017;
    • two (2) Platinum Badge tickets to South by Southwest (SxSW), valid from 10/03/2017 to 19/03/2017; and
    • AU$2,000 spending money for the winner, awarded via an electronic funds transfer into an account in the winner’s name.

  3. Prize must be taken from 13/03/2017 – 19/03/2017, and is subject to booking and flight availability. During the entire duration of the prize, a nominated parent/guardian must accompany any person under 18 years of age. Additional spending money, meals, taxes (excluding airline and airport taxes), insurance, passports, visas, vaccinations, transport to and from departure point, transfers, items of a personal nature, in-room charges and all other ancillary costs are not included. The winner and his/her companion are responsible for ensuring that they have valid passports, and any requisite visas, vaccinations and travel documentation. The winner (and his/her companion) must depart from and return to the same departure point and travel together. Itinerary to be determined by the Promoter in its absolute discretion. Frequent flyer points will not form part of the prize. Prize is subject to the standard terms and conditions of individual prize and service providers. The winner may be required to present their credit card at time of accommodation check in.

  4. The Winner will be notified by telephone and email, and their name will be published on ideasgen.uniting.org on 30/01/2017.


  1. Information on how to enter and the prize form part of these Terms and Conditions. Participation in this promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.

  2. This is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the Finalists or the Winner

  3. The promoter is The Uniting Church in Australia Property Trust (NSW) on behalf of Uniting (NSW.ACT) (ABN 78 722 539 923) of 4/222 Pitt Street, Sydney, NSW 2000 (“Promoter”).

  4. The Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  5. If the winner is under the age of 18 years, the prize will be awarded to the winner's nominated parent or guardian.

  6. If for any reason the winner does not take/redeem the prize (or an element of the prize) at/by the time stipulated by the Promoter, then the prize (or that element of the prize) will be forfeited.

  7. If any prize (or part of any prize) is unavailable, the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right to substitute the prize (or that part of the prize) with a prize to the equal value and/or specification.

  8. The ticket prizes are subject to the event venue and ticket terms and conditions, including any applicable age restriction. The Promoter and event organisers hereby expressly reserve the right to eject the winner (and/or his/her companion) for any inappropriate behaviour, including but not limited to intoxication, whilst participating in any element of the prize.

  9. Total prize pool value is up to AU$12,031.22.

  10. The prize, or any unused portion of the prize, is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash, unless otherwise specified.

  11. Entrants agree that they are fully responsible for any materials they submit via the promotion including but not limited to Videos (“Content”). The Promoter shall not be liable in any way for such Content to the full extent permitted by law. The Promoter may remove or decline to publish any Content without notice for any reason whatsoever. Entrants warrant and agree that:

    1. they will not submit any Content that is unlawful or fraudulent, or that the Promoter may deem in breach of any intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other rights, defamatory, obscene, derogatory, pornographic, sexually inappropriate, violent, abusive, harassing, threatening, objectionable with respect to race, religion, origin or gender, not suitable for children aged under 15, or otherwise unsuitable for publication;
    2. their Content shall not contain viruses or cause injury or harm to any person or entity;
    3. they will obtain prior consent from any person or from the owner(s) of any property that appears in their Content;
    4. the Content is the original work of the entrant that does not infringe the rights of any third party;
    5. they consent to any use of the Content by the Promoter which may otherwise infringe the Content creator’s/creators’ moral rights pursuant to the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) and warrant that they have the full authority to grant these rights; and
    6. they will comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including without limitation, those governing copyright, content, defamation, privacy, publicity and the access or use of others' computer or communication systems.

    Without limiting any other terms herein, the entrant agrees to indemnify the Promoter for any breach of the above terms.

  12. As a condition of entering this promotion, each entrant licenses and grants the Promoter, its affiliates and sub-licensees a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, and sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish and display their entry (which shall include Content) for any purpose, including but not limited to future promotional, marketing or publicity purposes, in any media, without compensation, restriction on use, attribution or liability.

  13. Entrants consent to the Promoter using their name, likeness, image and/or voice in the event they are a winner (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same) in any media for an unlimited period without remuneration for the purpose of promoting this promotion (including any outcome), and promoting any products manufactured, distributed and/or supplied by the Promoter.

  14. If this promotion is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, including but not limited to technical difficulties, unauthorised intervention or fraud, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any entrant; or (b) to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the promotion, as appropriate.

  15. Any cost associated with accessing the promotional website is the entrant’s responsibility and is dependent on the Internet service provider used.

  16. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees as provided under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), as well as any other implied warranties under the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 (Cth) or similar consumer protection laws in the States and Territories of Australia (“Non-Excludable Guarantees”). Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, the Promoter (including its respective officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the promotion.

  17. Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, the Promoter (including its respective officers, employees and agents) is not responsible for and excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter’s control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter; (d) any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; (e) if the South by Southwest event is delayed, postponed or cancelled for any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter; (f) any tax liability incurred by a winner or entrant; or (g) taking/use of and/or participation in the prize.

  18. As a condition of accepting the prize, the winner (and his/her companion) must sign any legal documentation as and in the form required by the Promoter and/or prize suppliers in their absolute discretion, including but not limited to a legal release and indemnity form. In the event a winner or winner’s companion is under the age of 18, a nominated parent/legal guardian of such person will be required to sign the legal documentation required under this clause on their behalf.

  19. The Promoter collects personal information ("PI") in order to conduct the promotion and may, for this purpose, disclose such PI to third parties, including but not limited to agents, contractors, service providers and prize suppliers. Entry is conditional on providing this PI. The Promoter will also use and handle PI as set out in its Privacy Policy, which can be viewed at https://uniting.org/privacy-policy. In addition to any use that may be outlined in the Promoter’s Privacy Policy, the Promoter may, for an indefinite period, unless otherwise advised, use the PI for promotional, marketing, publicity, research and profiling purposes, including sending electronic messages or telephoning the entrant. The Privacy Policy also contains information about how entrants may opt out, access, update or correct their PI, how entrants may complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles or any other applicable law and how those complaints will be dealt with. All entries become the property of the Promoter. Unless otherwise indicated by the Promoter, the Promoter may disclose PI to entities outside of Australia (see the Promoter’s Privacy Policy for details).
